Gavel Award

Peter has long recognized the value of civics education and the importance of educating students regarding the judicial branch. As Colonie Town Judge, in 2007, in order to promote such education, Peter initiated his Gavel Award.

The Gavel Award is presented annually to a teacher in the Town of Colonie, New York, who promotes knowledge of the Courtroom in the classroom.

Peter makes an in-class presentation to each recipient, articulating the reasons why the educator was selected.
